Established in 1905, the National Association of Funeral Directors represents more than 3,700 UK funeral homes nationwide, UK and overseas suppliers to the profession and overseas funeral firms.
Our role is provide support and guidance to funeral firms and the bereaved families in their care.
In 2005, we celebrated a century of service to funeral firms and the families in their care. The Association has been supporting funeral directing businesses since 1905 and is proud of its traditions and achievements within the profession.
The NAFD’s lion logo is acknowledged as a ‘kite mark’ of quality assurance, guaranteeing the highest professional standards. Bereaved families can turn to an NAFD member firm with confidence to arrange a funeral that is a fitting final farewell to their loved one.
The Association represents the funeral profession at all levels of Government in respect of legislation and campaigns on issues affecting not only funeral directors, but also the bereaved. We provide informed opinion to Parliamentarians, Government agencies and consumer groups on all funeral matters.
The NAFD also takes the lead in education within the profession and is responsible for a range of professional development programmes, recognised by major UK educational bodies such as the National Open College Network and Birmingham City University.
Independent of any single funding body or organisation we are inclusive, welcoming members from right across the spectrum of the industry.
Our member companies range from small family businesses to PLCs and Co-operatives, between them conducting in excess of 470,000 funerals every year.
The Association ensures that its members set the highest standards of customer care in the industrythrough a robust Code of Practice, Code of Professional Standards and independent arbitration service.
