Citation announces scholarship for Foundation Degree students

Citation plc, the UK’s leading Health & Safety and Employment Law specialist, is supporting the new Foundation Degree in Funeral Services by offering students the chance to win a scholarship worth up to £3,000.

The company has joined forces with the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), which believes it is vital to provide experienced funeral directors with personal development opportunities if the profession is to continue to maintain high standards and develop by attracting new blood.

Citation has been an NAFD partner for more than five years and as part of this groundbreaking educational initiative has agreed to sponsor a student. The company will provide a financial bursary of up to £3,000 in total, over three years, to cover tuition fees and the induction programme.

Adrian Brine, director of Affinity Partnerships at Citation plc, said: “Having taken a key role in several innovative funeral sector initiatives over the years, we are delighted to be associated with another industry first.

“If we can help somebody who is genuinely committed to furthering their career in the funeral service, then that can only be a positive step.”

The Foundation Degree in Funeral Services is being developed by the National Association of Funeral Directors in conjunction with the Centre for Death & Society at the University of Bath and will be offered as a two-year full time course or a three-year course for applicants who prefer to study on a part time basis.

The course will cover a number of areas pertinent to funeral service management and is expected to generate a lot of interest, especially since it has been designed to be flexible enough to allow students to continue in full time employment.

“The Foundation Degree in Funeral Services is an innovative educational programme which will underpin the benefits of professional development – both to experienced individuals and to the sector at large – by expanding the opportunities available, and we are delighted to have the backing of Citation, which is one of the funeral industry’s most committed supporters,” says NAFD chief executive officer Alan Slater.

Citation plc and the NAFD are running a competition to choose the beneficiary of the bursary. Anyone wishing to express their interest should contact Alan Slater at the NAFD on 0845 230 1343 for an application form by Monday, June 16, 2008.
