Ancient Brotherhood adapts to COVID
In July’s Funeral Director Monthly, there’s a feature on the Charitable Brothers of Saint-Eloi, based in Bethune in France, which was founded in the 12th Century to help families bury their loved ones during another pandemic – the plague – when gravediggers found themselves overwhelmed by the number of deaths.
More than 800 years later, the brotherhood remains a core part of the city’s approach to caring for bereaved people in financial hardship or without loved ones – including during the COVID-19 pandemic.
