NAFD publishes ‘A Manifesto for Choice’ ahead of Scottish Parliamentary Elections

Today (8 April 2021) the NAFD launches its manifesto for the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections in May. Called ‘A Manifesto for Choice’, it has five key aims and questions for Government and Members of the Scottish Parliament, calling for:

  1. The introduction of a named minister with responsibility for funerals and bereavement.
  2. A national review of lessons learned by the funeral and bereavement sector during the Covid-19 pandemic, led by the named Minister.
  3. Protection of beneficial changes following the expiration of the Coronavirus Act 2020
  4. An examination of how the Funeral Support Payment scheme is working.
  5. A coffin to be classed as an essential item under the Funeral Support Payment.
