The new NAFD Funeral Arranging and Administration Certificate (FAACert) is designed for employees working as funeral arrangers and administrators. Delivered mostly through online and distance learning, the course also includes a final assessment by a qualified NAFD examiner. Moving the Certificate online makes it more accessible to a wider audience, from across the length and breadth of the UK, and enables the learner to study at their own pace and in their own time.
As part of the NAFD’s new Education Framework, which is designed to support career progression within the funeral profession, the entry criteria for the FAACert is a minimum of nine months’ experience working as a funeral arranger. Candidates must be currently employed in the funeral sector and must also hold a valid Maths and English qualification at Grade D/3 or above.
The course syllabus covers topics such as the impact of bereavement, sensitive communication, Health and Safety in the Workplace, the role of the Coroner/Procurator Fiscal, arranging burials and cremations, funerals for children – and much more.
Karen Van-Richardson, the NAFD’s Education Development Manager, explained more about the new qualification.
“The FAACert provides an important foundation for funeral arrangers and those aspiring to become funeral directors. It covers all of the processes related to funeral arranging and associated administrative procedures, and demands that students apply this knowledge to solve routine problems and provide sensitive support to bereaved people. It also supports students in not only working well as part of a team, under supervision, but also in developing the skills they need to act effectively with autonomy too as they progress through their career.”
The cost of the FAACert course is £795, for a two-year registration period, and is payable in advance before the student gets access to the course content and support. It is expected that most students will complete the course within a period of between six to twelve months.
