Reuse of graves on the agenda as Cross-Party Group for Funerals and Bereavement meets at the Senedd
In November, the Cross-Party Group for Funerals and Bereavement in the Senedd, for which the NAFD provides the secretariat, met in person for the first time in three years, having moved successfully to Zoom during the pandemic.
Utilising the Welsh Parliament’s hybrid conferencing facilities, Group chair, Mark Isherwood MS, welcomed attendees both in the room and online, saying what a pleasure it was to finally be able to meet at the Senedd once again, before discussions turned to an informal consultation that the Group had undertaken, across 2022, on results of an informal consultation on the potential for the re-use of graves in Wales.
The meeting also heard from Emma Kneebone of child bereavement charity 2Wish, who provided the Group with an update on the Bereavement Pathway following the loss of a child and from SAIF CEO Terry Tennens and the NAFD’s Director of Policy and Public Affairs Rachel Bradburne on the Fuller Inquiry into care of bereaved people, following the crimes of hospital electrician David Fuller. The Group also reviewed the recommendations for Wales made recently, by the UK Bereavement Commission, to address challenges for some communities in terms of access to bereavement support.
