The Ministry of Justice has today confirmed that the statutory Medical Examiner System will not come into force in the first half of April, as previously announced.
Rachel Bradburne, Director of Policy and Public Affairs, said: “Following months (years) of discussions with Government about the introduction of a statutory Medical Examiner scheme, it is incredibly frustrating to be so close to the finish line and now the Government is announcing more delays. We continue to press Government for better communication on this and all elements of the death management pathway.”
The Department for Health and Social Care will make further announcements in due course, and we will update members as soon as we hear anything.
